Experimental Economics Group
The Sydney Experimental Economics Laboratory is the heart of the Experimental and Behavioural Economics research at the University of Sydney. Every semester, the academics and students from the School of Economics collect data from hundreds of student participants to gain a better understanding of how people make decisions and how markets and economies operate. If you are 18 years old and a current University of Sydney student you are eligible to participate in the experiments. Interested students can learn more and register at the registration page.
The Sydney Experimental Economics Lab was created in 2009. From 2009 to 2018, the Lab was housed in the Merewether building. In 2017, as part of the move of the School of Economics into the Social Sciences Building, the University dedicated a special space for the experimental economics lab in its brand-new Social Sciences Building which opened in 2018.
Lab Technology
The Lab consists of 38 computer stations separated by movable partitions. It is equipped with two projector screens, a sit-stand podium, and standard AV systems. The two primary software frameworks used to collect experimental data are zTree and oTree.
